The imports of tea in the country registered an increase of 17.03 per cent during the first month of financial year as the country consumed about 9,116 metric tonnes in the month of July 2011. According to data released by Federal Board of Statistics (FBS), during the month of July, 9,116 metric tonnes tea costing $26.494 million as compared to the 7,616 metric tonnes costing $22.638 million during month of June 2011.
Tea import increased by 4.97 per cent as compared to the same period of last year as during the month of July 2010 this was recorded at 10,415 metric tonnes costing 25.240 million. Meanwhile, import of Soya Bean Oil decreased by 75.42 per cent as compared to the import of the commodity during same period last year.
The import of the commodity was 629 metric tonnes costing $0.698 million in July 2011 as compared to 2,259 metric tonnes costing $2.8 million during same period of the corresponding year. The import of spices was also reduced by 12.80 per cent as compared to same period of corresponding year.
