In an effort to control one-wheeling, city police have arrested more than 200 one-wheelers in Ramadan, as the increasing trend of this dangerous sport among youngsters has claimed several lives and a number of youngsters have sustained serious injuries, Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hameed said on Wednesday.
He said one-wheeling was already being checked by special squads of police officers deputed across the city but now several other arrangements had also been made to curb the activity. He said more than 200 one-wheelers had been arrested this month, while a large number of youngsters had been warned.
Police have taken stern action against one-wheelers and Rawal Road, Murree Road near Committee Chowk underpass and other areas where one-wheeling is especially popular are being covered vigilantly. He said motorcycles being used for one-wheeling were also impounded and FIRs were registered against the owners. The Rawalpindi CPO said police officials had been directed to keep a vigilant eye on one-wheelers so that action could be taken against them in accordance with the law. Police officials were deployed to Ayub Park, Murree Road near Underpass, Rawal Road, Sixth Road, Stadium Road and other places as part of special arrangements to curb the activity.
It was especially being checked at night during Ramadan, as youngsters taking benefit of the thin traffic on city roads, performed stunts and created trouble for other road users. Night duties of police officers had also been arranged to control crime and rules’ violations, including one-wheeling, he informed.
