The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has opposed calls for an army action in Karachi to control the law and order situation wrought by politically-motivated killings there.
The LHCBA announcement came on Tuesday after the body’s General House meeting held here with LHCBA President Asghar Ali Gill in the chair. The meeting discussed at length the situation in Karachi. The participants strongly opposed any army operation in Karachi and stressed political means to cure the city’s ills.
LHCBA Secretary Arshad Malik Awan, senior lawyers including Aslam Zar, Ghulam Farid Sanotra, Noor Muhamamd Sarfraz, Muhamadm Anwar Ghuman, Malik Mansib Awan, Akhtar Shah, Ilyas Khan and Abdul Rashid Qureshi also spoke on the occasion. They highlighted importance of Karachi as the commercial hub the country.
They said Karachi was home to millions of those who had come from different areas of the country. They denounced unabated killings plaguing the peace in the city. They were of the view that mercenaries backed by the US, Israel and India were behind the violence. They observed no Muslim could slay another with the brutality and mercilessness being shown in Karachi.
Asghar Ali Gill said the lawyers’ community of Lahore was with the people of Karachi at the present hour of trouble. He also appealed to the federal and provincial governments to use state machinery to bring peace in Karachi.
