Ramzan is an Islamic month that intend to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to God. Allah orders Muslims to fast in Ramzan during daylight hours. Besides these virtues people learn to help poor people in their society. This is done by paying zakat. Zakat is obligatory to every Muslim who possesses the minimum nisaab (the amount of property or money on which zakat becomes obligatory). Allah has prescribed nisaab so that no one can be forced to pay zakat who does not have it.

Every Muslim who has property in the form of money, animals, gold and silver is supposed to pay zakat. Many scholars are of the view that any business activity that brings profit to the investor should also pay zakat. The question arises as to whom zakat should be paid. Allah has also has prescribed them in Quran. Zakat can also be given to a person who fights in the way of Allah. The zakat-payer should try to give it to an eligible person.
