Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed on Wednesday that abducted US national Dr Warren Weinstein was a “suspected individual” involved in “mysterious activities”. The law minister said the investigation carried out so far had revealed that Dr Weinstein was not engaged in any sort of development projects in Lahore.
“We also could not find any clue about his engagement in the same line of work at the provincial level,” he added. Rana said the Punjab government also made repeated requests to Dr Weinstein to accept personal security but he turned a deaf ear to the requests. “Security was arranged for him once but he sent it back. This act gives rise to the suspicion that he was involved in some suspicious activities and did not want anyone to watch his movements,” the law minister added. Investigators also believed that he was not a common civilian merely working on development projects in Lahore.
Sources said Dr Weinstein could be an undercover agent like Raymond Davis, working for the Central Intelligence Agency, and further investigation would spill the beans. Two officials of the US Consulate in Lahore had visited Weinstein’s Model Town residence-cum-office for their own investigation and for evidence collection. Police sources said that the officials spent some time at the rented property and examined all the rooms and their contents. The officials, who were brought to the house amid tight security, also inspected the telephones and equipment installed in the two-storey house. They later discussed the pace of investigation with police investigators and sought assistance for their own investigation.

  1. what the heck!!! other articles say he was involved in many business development projects- leather, dairy, agriculture are just the few that i remember. this article says they know of no projects, and all but comes out and accuses him of being a spy.
he lived in islamabad for many years. he must have had staff and neighbors. no one goes unnoticed for years. who is in the islamabad house now?
lets see some investigative journalism-with no invented sensationalism.

  2. Keeping in view my experience with US non profit organizations, i am sure this person was under cover agent working for CIA. persons of these type usually have links with local terrorist and taliban commander to, to carry terrorist activites in pakistan.

  3. Oh boy. Rana Sanaullah thinks something is mysterious. What could be more mysterious than the aggregate brain cell count of the entire PML N? And then we have ***** like Mr.Farrukh who are “sure” that he was an undercover agent for CIA. Between Rana Sanaullah and Mr.Farrukh we certainly have the makings of a Holmes and Watson caper. However, let me just lay on the line that Mr.Warren had a hand in setting up several development projects, especially in the agriculture and livestock sectors and has trained several pakistanis in development matters.
His involvement with the CIA stopped at providing information on Shahbaz Sharif’s viagra popping and his elder brother’s hair transplants. Top secret stuff.
