17 August was the darkest day in Karachi when 18 people were slain including a great social worker and former MNA Waja Dad and became victim of two rival gangs operating in Lyari for many years is the highest act of brutality. The death game going on in Karachi has exposed the hollow claims of the federal and provincial government that peace shall soon prevail in Karachi. The fact is that the government has once again miserably failed to bring an end to the killing of innocent people of Karachi. It may be coincidence but is a ground reality that whenever government gives firm assurance to control the killings, the death toll frequency shows upward trend.
Our worthy home minister instead of protecting the life and property of citizens is engaged in daydreaming of MQM’s rejoining the government. In any civilised country, under the existing circumstances the minister would have resigned, but in Pakistan over the past 64 years we have failed to produce such upright leaders who could have established any such example.
We are so callous that even the Independence Day was not spared and people continued to receive dead bodies, ironically, while Pakistani flags were being displayed on their homes. The government, be at the centre or at the provincial level has completely collapsed. If the present state of affairs is not brought under control, it will be difficult to control civil war that would ultimately be disastrous for the country. What they should realise is that if there is no country there will be no government as well.
