An official of the National Institute of Health (NIH) said there was danger of dengue fever spreading in the twin cities. The first case of the season was registered in Rawalpindi. The patient died only a few days after it was confirmed he was suffering from dengue. Similarly, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) admitted a suspected dengue patient on Wednesday. His blood sample was sent to NIH for dengue serology and confirmation of diagnosis. Javed Iqbal, 56, was referred from Shifa International to PIMS on Tuesday, as he was suffering from fever with a low platelet count. Iqbal was kept in the isolation ward of the hospital, where four beds were available for positive cases of dengue fever. “We have sent the blood samples of the suspected patient to NIH and after the confirmation we shall proceed,” PIMS Joint Executive Director Dr Altaf Hussain said. Experts at NIH already expressed fears that dengue fever could soon hit Islamabad and Rawalpindi, with the end of the monsoon season. The NIH also issued guidelines for the prevention and control of the virus in all health departments of Islamabad for the anticipated dengue virus outbreak at the end of the monsoon season.
My prayers will be with Pakistan, I wish no more suffering there.
