Biased reporting

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), once known for its objective reporting, is inadvertently falling into the labyrinth of others’ agenda.

The HRCP has accused Pakistan Army and its coordinating departments responsible for extrajudicial killings, bullet ridden corpses and missing persons’ cases in Balochistan. Asma Jahangir places the number of missing persons at 140, against official figure of 46. The HRCP’s report is as an attempt to destabilise and malign Pakistan as it exhorted people of Balochistan to raise their voice against the law enforcement agencies for the sake of their rights.

The Balochistan government has termed the HRCP report as a pack of lies. A probe into the funding of HRCP could be traced back to those forces which want to destabilise Pakistan.

The role of the Pakistan armed forces has been commendable in protecting the country from both external and internal threats. However, these good deeds are not being projected adequately.

The civil society and media must understand that the situation in Balochistan in its true perspective and project sincere efforts of the institutions concerned in a positive way to improve the situation. The decision by the COAS Gen Kayani that no new cantonment would be established in Balochistan has not been given wide publication.

Similarly, media remained silent on the induction of 9,000 Baloch youths in army, relaxation in selection criterion/age limits, opening up of army medical college, institute of technology in Gwadar and military college in Sui as well as on the opening up of modern education facilities to Baloch youths at their doorsteps.
