Despite a sharp reduction in the electricity shortfall, the consumers are not relieved from the eight to 16-hour power outages, Pakistan Today has learned on Saturday.
According to the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPC), the power shortfall was 4,600MW on Tuesday, 4,010MW on Wednesday, 3,700MW on Thursday and 3,196 on Friday still the power shutdown schedule remained unchanged with eight to 16 hours of no electricity. There was however a slight reduction in the unscheduled power cuts.
The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) sources said providing uninterrupted supplies to the VIP areas left the company with no option but to cut electricity for other areas. They said the LESCO had no power to reduce electricity shutdowns in the city.
The electricity was also closed for long hours immediately after the rain on Saturday. LESCO officials said the electricity was closed down to repair a number of damaged transmission lines and out-of-order transformers. The consumers said despite rain and decrease in temperature, there was no relief for them. “The usage of air conditioners has reduced because of rain but even then power outage schedule remains the same,” said LESCO consumer Javed Latif.
