Prices up before Ramadan

The prices of vegetables and fruits continued their upward spiral at Sunday bazaars before Ramazan. A similar increase has been seen in the prices of kitchen items have also been increasing for the last three weeks and the trend continued.
Standing rainwater too filled a number of the bazaars, causing shoppers problems.
The Model Bazaar Township was also frequented. However, consumers complained that such bazaars could only be useful if prices were checked by the administration.
“A price increase before the Ramazan is the hallmark of Pakistan,” said customer Umar Latif shopping at the Township Model Bazaar. He said prices were increasing since the last two weeks with no one to control them. He said, “hoarders are active and the city and provincial administration appear helpless before them again.”
Consumers appreciated the cleanliness at the Model Bazaar. Shopper Mubashir Akram could not help but ask the government to set up similar, clean bazaars throughout the city. He also said the government could improve old bazaars rather than creating new bazaars. “I mean it is simple logic to improve what already exists,” said Mubashir.
The Johar Town, Green Town, Shalimar, Kot Abdul Malik, Karim Block Iqbal Town and Wahdat Road Sunday Bazaars were the ones plagued by excess rainwater.
Meanwhile, onion prices increased by Rs 2 per kg and it was sold for Rs 22. Potato pries increased by Rs 3 per kg and it was available for Rs 35 per kg. Ginger was sold for Rs 98 per kg with an increase of Rs 3 per kg witnessed. Similarly, tomato prices increased by Rs 2 per kg and it was available for Rs 50 per kg.
Among fruits, Apples Grade A cost Rs 5 per kg more and it was sold for Rs 140 per kg.
