Local bodies to ensure religious harmony during Muharram

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Local Governments Muhammad Manshaullah Butt has directed local government institutions and their elected representatives to ensure maintenance of peace during Muharram.

He said this while chairing a meeting on arrangements of Muharram-ul-Haraam here on Friday.

He said: “All mayors, chairmen, deputy chairmen, chief officers and other officers and representatives of local bodies’ institutions have been directed to play their due role for creating an environment of religious tolerance and ensuring proper security arrangements of mosques, imambargahs and other places during Muharram”.

He said that the government was committed to ensuring peace and stability during Muharram and that the number of security officials deployed this year had been increased compared with previous years.

He also said that the role of local bodies’ representatives along with security officers would be very effective in getting the desired results.

He further said that there would be no leniency for promoters of hate speech or negative propaganda through wall chalking or any other way of expression about sectarianism etc.

He urged people of all walks of life to play their role in the promotion of religious harmony in the country.
