A civil court on Thursday handed over PML-N MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on a four-day physical remand for his alleged involvement in the National Police Foundation (NPF) scam.
Senior Civil Judge Mehmood Haroon Khan granted a four-day physical remand to the FIA. Aqeel was presented in the court after the expiry of his three-day physical remand. The FIA had requested the court for a seven-day physical remand but the court granted the agency only four days.
Inam Minhas, Aqeel’s counsel told reporters that the complainant had not produced any document in the court so far which proved that Aqeel had taken Rs 950,000 from him. “The complainant has produced no document, which has Anjum Aqeel’s signature on it”, he said.
He said PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif had issued show cause notice to his client and he would give the answer explaining his position over the issue. He also expressed reservations over the investigation of the case and added that the authorities had changed the officers investigating the case several times. Minhas said his client was being politically victimised and that Aqeel had surrendered and would face the case as he was innocent.
A number of PML-N supporters had gathered outside the court and chanted slogans in favour of Aqeel.
