The power shortfall continues to increase across the country and currently stands at 5,655 MW.
According to the spokesperson for PEPCO, electricity generation is 13,110 MW while demand is 18,765. The share of hydel generation is 5,353 MW while that of thermal and the IPPS are 5,363 MW and 6,089 MW respectively. In Hyderabad and parts of interior Sindh, the people are facing 10 to 14 hours of load-shedding, resulting in a protest by traders and businessmen in Jamshoro.
Eight to ten hours of load-shedding has become a norm in Karachi while technical faults are not being fixed for several days. The spokesperson for the KESC said the supply of furnace oil to the company had been restarted. In Multan and other areas of south Punjab, residents are frustrated over the increasing hours of load-shedding. And Balochistan is experiencing 18 hours of load-shedding while the rural population is without electricity for 20 hours.
