Karachi stood atop the rest of the country with 98 murder FIRs while Lahore took the lead in rape cases with 29 FIRs registered in different police stations in April this year.
As many as 29,505 FIRs were registered in police stations in 55 districts across the country during April serious crimes like murder and rape were frequently reported in urban districts of the country, said a report compiled by FAFEN. Crimes against women are generally regarded as the outcome of certain socially sanctioned prejudices, especially in rural and largely inaccessible tribal areas. However the data suggest that these might be prevalent in developed urban centers of the country as well. During April, most number of crimes against women was reported in Lahore.
In order to collect crime statistics, FAFEN governance monitors visited offices of the District Police Officers (DPO) in 55 districts in April. Of these, 23 were monitored in Punjab, 14 in KP, 12 in Sindh, five in Balochistan and the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). Patterns of reportage varied across different regions in the country. More than half of all FIRs filed against each category of crime were lodged in the DPO offices monitored in Punjab.

  1. The chief minister is responsible for protecting the people of his province and so is the governor. If anything goes wrong – it is their job to ensure it should not have happened. It is also the responsibility of the MPA and the MNA who got elected from the province and particularly from the city.

  2. I strongly oppose the title of this news. Its offensive. They didn’t use the term ‘Capital of Murders’ for Karachi or ‘Capital of Distributorship’ for Islamabad. It shows that the paper is against Lahoris. Lahore is the true capital of Pakistan as Pakistan Resolution was approved in Lahore. All Pakistanis should respect Lahore for that, otherwise go and join India. Establishment and Industralist don’t want Lahore to be famous and progress as its a people’s city.
