Police claimed arresting six people affiliated with different political parties for their involvement in targeted killings and bank robberies. The detainees have confessed killing political rivals across the city.
Police arrested Rahmat Ali Jaffery from Angara Goth and recovered a heavy cache of weapons, including two Kalashnikovs and a TT pistol, as well as bullets from his possession.
Jaffery claimed his affiliation with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and accepted his involvement in the murder of six Awami National Party (ANP) activists.
“I killed the ANP activists on the instructions of the MQM Gulistan-e-Jauhar unit in-charge,” Jaffery told the Joint Investigation Team (JIT).
The JIT that comprises representatives of five law enforcement agencies – the Inter-Services Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence, Crime Investigation Department and Sindh Police – has been formed to interrogate suspects arrested on charges of targeted killings.
According to details, Jaffery had gunned down ANP activists Saleem Khan alias Danger, Khayal Nazeer Bangash, Humayun Musawwir, Sikandar Khan and two others.
Jaffery also admitted being involved in a bank robbery at a private bank branch in December 2009.
Besides, the police also arrested five more alleged target-killers, namely Raees Pathan, Tariq, Muhammad Nadeem, Fazeel Hayat and Badshah Khan, who claimed their affiliation with the ANP.
Weapons, including three Kalashnikovs, a rifle and five TT pistols, as well as a large number of bullets were recovered from their possession.
The arrested men have allegedly killed over nine people across the metropolis and have links with the land mafia as well.
Liaquatabad Superintendent of Police Khawaja Naveed briefed the media, saying that the police had conducted raids on clues provided by some arrested criminals.
