PU organises workshop for post-graduates

Punjab University Department of Islamic Studies Chairman Professor Dr Hafiz Mahmood Akhtar inaugurated the second annual two-day workshop for MPhil and PhD (old scheme) students and those studying Saudi Arabian universities on Monday.
Akhtar said the workshop would create awareness about the latest problems concerning the Islamic world and develop academic relations with the Saudi varsities. He also read his paper titled “Jadeed Tafseer Kay Rujhanat”.
Dr Hafiz Ashraf delivered a lecture on “Islam and Human Rights” and presented a background of the struggle of human rights in European countries. He said Mesaaq-e-Madina was the best example of the fundamentals of human rights. He stressed the need to practically adopt these measures in Islamic countries.
Prof Dr Shabbir Ahmad Mansoori delivered a lecture on “Ilam Aur Imamat.” He said to lead the society and the world, it was necessary to make knowledge and faith a base. It would not only eliminate social evils and injustice but would also enable Muslims to play a leading role like the past, said Mansoori, adding that the efforts of Islamic movements of the world needed to take forward according to the modern requirements.
Prof Ghalib Atta delivered a lecture on “Resources of energy in Pakistan and their political, economical and geographical impacts.” He gave statistics and proved that Pakistan had enough resources to generate energy, not only for domestic use but for export as well.
He said Pakistani leadership was not fully utilising the coal reservoirs worth billions of rupees, neither was it making efforts to collect and use flood water for energy generation whereas India had filled 210 dams using the flood water. He stressed the need to build Kalabagh and Bhasha dams on urgent basis as since the past decade, ready crops were being severely damaged because of acute water shortage. On the second day of the workshop (today), Dr Hafiz Muhammad Abdullah, Prof Qari Muhammad Azmat and Dr Muhammad Hammad Lakhvi shall deliver lectures.
Speech contest on “Child Rights” at PU today (Tuesday): Global Vision Organisation shall organise a speech contest on “Chalo Kisi Rotey Howey Bachay Ko Hansaya Jaey” in connection with the awareness raising seminar on child rights today (Tuesday)at 10am in the Punjab University Law College Environmental Law Centre. The top three position holders of the contest shall be awarded cash prizes and certificates.
