Two unidentified motorcyclists gunned down sub-inspector (SI) Tariq Mehmood Bajwa and injured his son, Adil Bajwa, in the Batapura Police Station precincts near Jallo Roundabout on Monday.
The deceased SI was dropping his son at the Punjab University (PU) along with his brother Ayyaz Bajwa at around 9:30am on his green colour Suzuki Mehran. As they reached near Jallo Roundabout, two unidentified motorcyclists, riding a Honda 125 motorcycle, approached them from behind. As the motorcyclists crossed the car, one of the two motorcyclists brought out his pistol and opened fire.
The other motorcyclist parked the bike in front of the car and approached the other side of the car. He also brought his gun out and opened fire targeting Adil. Due to firing, both the father and son were critically injured. Tariq died instantly while the attackers managed to flee leaving both father and son in a pool of blood. Ayyaz, who miraculously remained safe from the firing, informed 15 Police, which reached the spot and removed Tariq’s body to the Mayo Hospital morgue while his injured son was shifted to a nearby hospital where he is critical.
Batapur Police Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Abid said that police have registered a case on compliant of Ayyaz and started investigations. He said that the SI was posted at Chowki Lubanwala of Ferozepura Police Station for the last nine months and transferred to the Saddar Farooqabad Police Station Operations Wing two weeks ago. He said that the incident did not look like a robbery-cum-murder rather as the result of an old enmity, the SHO said adding that the deceased’s family had nominated no one.
Abid said that the deceased was a middle-aged man and had married a young woman around three years ago. He said that Tariq had three daughters and two sons and out of the two sons, one was selected as a second lieutenant a couple of months ago while all his daughters were married and had a son from his second wife. The SHO suspected that the deceased’s second marriage might have lead to rivalries.
