Pakistan got off to a great start after shocking Ireland by 3-2 on the opening day of the World Cup Snooker Team Championship in Bangkok on Monday. National Champion Shahid Aftab produced a sterling show in Pakistan’s fighting show as he won both his singles matches and also won the doubles with Muhammad Sajjad. Ken Doherty defeated Muhammad Sajjad with a brilliant break of 111.
However Shahid Aftab levelled the terms when he beat Fergal o Brian spiced with a neatly compiled break of 74. Pakistan’s Shahid and Sajjad beat Doherty o Brian to gain 2-1 lead for the country. Fourth frame saw Shahid Aftab downing Ken Doherty 74-16 with a match winning break of 39 to give Pakistan an assailable 3-1 lead. Fergal o Brian smashed a break of 110 to beat Muhammad Sajjad to complete a 2-3 scoreline in favour of Pakistan.
