The Pakistan Cricket Board faces yet another controversy over the touring selection committee after it solved its issues with chief selector Mohsin Hassan Khan. Reports coming from the West Indies say the team that lost the last ODI to the hosts got caught in an altercation between captain Shahid Afridi and coach Waqar Younis over selection matters.
After winning the first three ODIs against West Indies, Pakistan surprisingly lost the final two matches. According to reports, Afridi and Waqar are at odds over the team selection and before the final ODI, both had a serious debate over the inclusion and exclusion of players in the team. Waqar was not happy with the captaincy and selection skills of Afridi and thus interfered in the matters so much that it irked Afridi.
The situation went so bad that Afridi threatened to pull out of the final ODI but with manager Intikhab Alam’s and some senior players’ intervention, the skipper came to field to play but he never looked like an interested captain in the final game. Reports said that the repercussions of the Afridi-Waqar row will also have its negative impact on the upcoming Test series as a bunch of senior players is unhappy with the differences.
