NA speaker to attend SAARC speakers, MPs conference in Delhi

National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza left for India on Thursday to attend the fifth Summit Conference of the SAARC Speakers and Parliamentarians being held in New Delhi from July 9 to 12.
According to the National Assembly’s media wing, the four-day conference – being hosted by Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar – would be inaugurated by the Indian prime minister on July 9.
The participants of the conference would ponder over a variety of subjects, including consolidating democracy, strengthening trust between parliament and people, sustainable development in SAARC countries and other issues concerning the masses.
The conference would finalise recommendations for consideration by their respective governments.
During her stay in New Delhi, the NA speaker would separately meet her Indian as well as other counterparts from SAARC countries and discuss augmentation of existing bilateral relations between their respective legislatures.
