Sindh Tourism Minister Ayaz Soomro has requested each Sindh Assembly member to contribute some amount from their annual MPA priority funds of Rs 40 million for the development of Gorakh Hills resort in Sindh.
“Let us join hands to make the dream of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto come true in the form of development of the Gorakh Hill Station in Sindh,” stated a letter addressed to the Sindh Assembly members here on Tuesday.
The government has keen interest in the development of Gorakh Hill Station situated in Dadu district just 450 km away from Karachi. The temperature of Gorakh Hills ranges from 18 to 28 degree Celsius in summers while it often reaches 20 degrees below freezing point during winters.
Soomro stated that Gorakh Hills were declared a summer resort in 1860 by British rulers along with Koh-e-Sar Mari, Ziyarat and other hilly areas. All the hills were developed but Gorakh Hill Station remained unattended.
The minister said that the first Muslim female Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto had visited Gorakh Hills in 1989 and issued orders for its development as per international standards with provision of all necessary facilities for tourists.
Soomro requested the MPAs to come forward and play their due roles in the promotion of tourist spots in Sindh, while also earmarking some amounts in this regard.
