Power tariff may go up by 6% in next fiscal

The government is likely to increase power tariff by up to 6 percent during the next fiscal year to bridge the gap between the determined and applied tariff to do away with the differential subsidy.
An official source said the increase in power tariff was calculated on the basis of the business plan devised by the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) for its distribution companies (DISCOs) during the next fiscal year. There is an estimated gap of Rs 1.10 per unit in the determined and the applied tariff and 2 percent or Rs 0.20 per unit increase on monthly basis would be enough to bridge the gap, he said, adding that the increase would be minimal as DISCOs were directed to expedite the recovery of their dues
campaign from defaulters.
