A very curious incident happened to the British PM David Cameron and Nick Clegg while they were meeting certain patients at a hospital. They were posing for their photo-ops when the situation changed; a senior orthopaedic surgeon entered the ward and ordered Mr Cameron and his colleague to leave the ward! Why did this incident take place? Shouldn’t the doctor have kept quite in honour of his country’s prime minister?!
Last month, Pakistani PM Gilani visited Jinnah Hospital, Karachi. He was there to inaugurate a new emergency department that was already functional. As Mr Gilani reached the hospital, patients were taken out of the new emergency department and shifted to some rooms at the tail-end of the hospital that were in dismal condition. The entrance of new patients and their relatives was restricted. No one was allowed to enter or exit the hospital! Medical stores were forced to close.
Now compare both of the incidents. In Britain, the surgeon was not afraid of Mr Cameron as he was on his duty and he followed the regulations. Mr Cameron and Clegg were not properly dressed for the wards which could be unsafe for the patients. The surgeon asked them to leave in the interest of the invalid patients. Think. Could the same incident take place in Pakistan? First of all, no one could dare to say word to Mr Gilani as they knew that they would be in a fix or they would be transferred.
It is a great pity that there is no abiding of laws in Pakistan. This is Pakistan where every thing is possible. Sometimes infants are born in rickshaws due to ministers or sometimes patients die as the traffic is jammed because of some minister’s travelling! Yes, this is Pakistan.
