Police clueless about Manga Mandi murders

Saddar Division Police has not been able to arrest any nominated accused involved in the killing of five men of a family in broad day light near Bahria Town in Manga Mandi police precincts on Thursday.
Saddar Division SP Investigation Hassan Mushtaq Sukhaira said that investigations were underway but no arrests had been made. He said that they conducted a few raids but could not lay their hands on the accused. However, they were hopeful to arrest the criminals in a day or two, he said.
Investigation Police handed over the bodies of the deceased to their heirs after completing legal formalities and autopsies by Jinnah Hospital. The deceased’s heirs have laid their family members to rest in a local graveyard of Jaliana Village.
Sources said that the situation was tense in Jaliana village and several men from the deceased’s family were found equipped with sophisticated weapons in order to save themselves from another ambush from their rivals. Heavy contingent of police was deployed during funerals to avoid another mishap.
The incident took place early on Thursday when Haji Barkat, 75, his two sons namely Ahmad Ali, 35, and Muhammad Amin, 30, and his two nephews, namely Muhammad Fayyaz, 25, and Muhammad Nawaz, 26, sons of Jan Muhammad, residents of Jaliana Village, Manga Mundi, were killed on their way to the Sessions Court for the hearing of a case.
Police, late on Thursday, registered a case against seven nominated men and two unidentified accused men on the complaint of Haji Barkat’s son Khaleel Ahmed. Haji Barkat and suspected party’s head Sher Muhammad were once close friends who later turned rivals.
