Members of the Awami National Party (ANP) and JUI-F turned aggressive and resorted to corruption allegations against each other as the upper house resumed its session on Thursday.
Senators from both sides did not spare the top leadership of both parties, questioning their credibility and assets. “People know how much assets were kept by Maulana Mufti Mahmood and Maulana Fazalur Rehman and what was possessed by the Wali family,” Senator Zahid Khan said in response to criticism on Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s government for failing to maintain law and order in the province.
The issue suddenly gripped senators’ attention when the JUI-F Senator Haji Ghulam Ali held the Khyber government responsible for desecration of a married woman in district Haripur of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Haji Ghulam Ali said the KPK government, instead of protecting lives and property of people, was busy in corruption. “Such corruption was never seen before in the KPK province,” Ghulam Ali said.
Remarks of JUI-F senator enraged the ANP member Zahid Khan who started to point fingers on the Jamiat leadership. “What was the JUI-F doing in the provincial government when Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) parted ways with then NWFP government,” he questioned. Haji Adeel of ANP accused JUI-F of bowing the seeds of terrorism in the province and promotion of fundamentalism through seminaries and mosques.
