Are we ready?

According to the Flood Commission Report, a loss of almost 855 billion rupees occurred when dykes were broken in Pakistan. The amount is equal to 10 billion dollars and in the 2011-12 Budget, Pakistan is facing a deficit of almost the same amount.

If proper preparation was done before the floods, this loss could have been avoided. After the floods, the government of Pakistan announced Watan Cards for affected people. The amount which was given to these affected people through Watan Card could have been saved if the same amount was spent on dykes earlier.

But the problem is that I still doubt we would be able to cope with any natural calamity that hits Pakistan as the government is not at all ready for it nor they have done any preparations.
