In the past few days we have seen a lot of questionable actions on the part of the government. The citizens of Pakistan should have been the top priority of the government, but it has seemingly been favouring some unscrupulous elements indirectly. The worst of this government’s acts was the announcement to dissolve the HEC. Doing so will affect many students. This decision will render our degrees mere pieces of paper in the world’s eye because the announcement comes on the heels of politicians’ fake degree scam. One wonders how the government could dissolve the HEC and jeopardise the future of many for the sake of a few corrupt to the core.
Because the HEC did not kneel to the corrupt, checked their degrees and revealed their misdeeds, should not be the reason to get rid of it as an institution. This may also make us ineligible for higher foreign education. We are treating education as a stepchild and ignoring it so that we may no longer be able to compete in the global market.
