A PIA engineer Naeem Khan was stranded in a lift installed at Wide Body Hangar (Ispahani Hangar), Karachi Airport while going for overhauling of PIA aircraft recently lost both his legs. On his way to hospital, the engineer succumbed to the injuries and died.
According to the protesting engineers, the incident took place due to negligence of the PIA management who did not ensure proper maintenance of the lift resulting in two incidents in single month.
Nonetheless, this raise a question that how will PIA engineers — who could not maintain a lift particularly meant for their own use properly – ensure the airworthiness of aircraft thus putting lives of hundreds of air passengers in jeopardy?
Will MD, PIA after an impartial inquiry sack the responsible person(s) of the death of an innocent engineer?
