Qatar Airways has paid Rs 1.1 million as compensation to a Pakistani family headed by Imran Ali, a handicapped person, who had filed a complaint against the airline in consumer court. Imran demanded full refund of family tickets and damages as he was allowed to travel to Ecuador (Quitto) visa, while the Ecuador government has issued a new policy a few days ago that along with many other countries Pakistan can not enter in Ecuador without valid visa. The consumer court, thus disposed of the complaint of the Rashid Ahmad Butt on the basis of re-conciliation with Qatar Airways.

On September 7, 2010 as per schedule the complainants reached Lahore airport to board flight QR333 for their journey towards Ecuador, and at the airport the complainants went through the process of scrutiny, checking of documents by the Qatar airline. After completion of all formalities boarding cards were issued up till Sao Paulo (Brazil) and complainant’s family was allowed to board the flight. The flight landed at Qatar Airport on same day and again airline staff posted at the airport carried out their checking of documents and after exercise of due care and having found the complainant’s family eligible for travel to Ecuador allowed them to board flight QR921 to Sao Paulo (Brazil).
By this stage no objection whatsoever was raised by the Qatar Airline while allowing the complainant’s family to board the flight QR921 that landed at Sao Paulo Airport (Brazil) and the complainants in order to continue the journey moved towards the connecting airline, Trans American Continental Airline (TACA) for boarding to Lima & Ecuador. Contrary to expectations the complainant’s family was not allowed to board by TACA staff of on flight TA 29 for Lima on the grounds of a notification issued by the Government of Ecuador.
