The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) N-Central observed “World No Smoking Day” in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), Health Ministry (Tobacco Control Cell) and International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease and The Network on Monday. On the directives of NHMP Inspector General Zafarullah Khan, officials of the NHMP observed “World No Smoking Day” in furtherance of its policy to develop a people friendly image of the force.
N-5 Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Fateh Sher Joyia asked the officials to distribute briefing literature among the commuters about the hazards of smoking. The DIG said that smoking while driving could cause accidents besides threatening loss of health in form of diseases like lungs cancer. He instructed officials to paste stickers reading “Smoking in public transport is a crime” inside public transport vehicles to deter passengers from smoking in public and creating awareness. Special arrangements were made at the Lahore NHMP Guidance Centre and all the important places on national highways to observe the day and pamphlets and stickers were distributed among the commuters containing information on consequences of smoking.
