Senator Babar Awan said on Sunday that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif was practicing the politics of division and hatred, and demanded he show political maturity as the country was passing through difficult times.
Addressing a press conference along with Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan and former information minister Qamar Zaman Kaira here, Babar said that Nawaz should not adopt “a non-serious attitude and mislead the nation, asking it to revolt against the government”. He said Nawaz had not mentioned what kind of revolution he was demanding from the people, and whether it would be against the parliament, constitution or democracy.
He alleged that Nawaz had preferred to leave the country instead of confronting a dictator, which would have been the correct time to announce a revolt. He said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had always practiced the politics of federation and reconciliation, while Nawaz was spreading hatred and division. He said further that Nawaz was ready to form alliances even with those who did not accept the national flag and national anthem, only to attain power.
Awan said that US helicopters had entered into Pakistan on two occasions. The first time, they had landed in Punjab to arrest a Pakistani citizen, and the second time was during a May 2 raid that killed Osama bin Laden. “The PML-N neither convened a joint session of parliament on the Kargil issue nor on the US helicopters’ issue,” he said. He boasted that it was the PPP government that “brought the officials of security and intelligence agencies to parliament”.
On the formation of an independent commission on the Abbottabad incident, Awan said the government had already finalised the plans.
