Six police stations in each division of Lahore Police will be declared as model police stations and one in each district of Punjab for addressing complainants and grievances without any delay, Punjab Police Inspector General Javed Iqbal said on Monday. He was talking to journalists at his office. Iqbal said that a complainant, living in precincts of any police station, could register a complaint at model police stations (MPS). The IGP said that trained and highly-qualified officials would be deputed at MPS for operations and investigation. He said that afterwards MPS would be established in each district of the province for improving the image of Punjab Police by providing justice to the masses.
When asked that how much time the Punjab Police will take to make MPS operational, Iqbal said that as things were not institutionalised, it would take quite sometime. The IGP said that he has suggested the Punjab government that qalandara under Section 182 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against people who provide false information should be registered to curtail registration of fake first information reports (FIR). Talking about accountability of policemen, Iqbal said that action has been taken against 300 policemen in around 1,500 incidents during the first five months of the year. He said that the purpose of giving punishments to officials is reformation.
