Special Judge Banking Offence (central) Malik Abdul Rasheed, during the hearing of NICL scam case against Moonis Elahi on Wednesday, directed Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to provide the defence counsel with the copies of statements of eight prosecution witnesses, which they recoded before the magistrate, submitting that FIA authorities obtained their signatures on blank stamp papers under pressure and they had never recorded their statements before.
Defence counsel Amjad Pervaiz prayed the court to direct FIA to provide the copies of the witnesses’ statements that they recoded before the magistrate under section 161 and 164 Cr PC. On the court’s direction, FIA sought adjournment for the production of copies of prosecution witnesses’ statements. The court adjourned the hearing until May 31. Moonis Elahi, the son of former chief minister Punjab Choudhary Pervaiz Elahi, is allegedly involved in facilitating one of the land deals of the NICL scam.
