Security high-alert after attack on PNS Mehran

After the terrorist attack on PNS Mehran, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Fayyaz Ahmad Leghari ordered the police to further beef up security in the entire province.The Karachi Capital City Police Office (CCPO) was directed to put police on high alert and enhance security around sensitive installations, important government offices, foreign consulates, intelligence agency offices and crowded public places. The IGP also directed the police to arrange foolproof security arrangements in Karachi while remaining in close contact with the city government.
Besides deploying plain-clothed security officials at sensitive places, the police was directed to increase patrolling and snap-checking while remaining in close contact with the intelligence agencies.
After the orders, security was stepped up at sensitive installations across the metropolis where heavy contingents of police and Rangers personnel were deployed. Sources privy to the authorities informed that the special branch of police was also directed to monitor the movements of foreigners, especially US citizens.
Security was beefed up around the newly-constructed US Consulate with the deployment of additional personnel of law enforcement agencies while patrolling was also intensified. Meanwhile, security was also enhanced for multinational companies situated in the metropolis.
