It seems we are the country that is perpetually at a crossroads. Chronically in crisis, the “at a crossroads” description would be an apt title for us at any random point in our history. I don’t know if this is a testament to our resilience or to our tendency to constantly make a royal mess of things.
The Osama debacle has once again put us “at a crossroads” so to speak not only internationally but domestically. Internationally, the bugles have sounded and the comity has asked us to pick a side. The fact that our the country on whose our foreign policy hinges is redefining the status of our relationship to “we’ll think about it” means that we have to realign our priorities and our loyalties. Internally, the civil-military relationship is in flux with the civilians having a window of opportunity to stamp their authority. Will they, won’t they? Only time will tell.
