The death toll in the Friday’s double suicide hit on Frontier Constabulary recruits at Shabqadar town of Charsadda district has reached 85 while the condition of several injured in the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) Peshawar is still stated to be in danger. According to police officials and doctors, five more succumbed to their injuries late on Friday night. Around 65 injured are receiving treatment in the LRH.
Dr Gohar said, it was hard to say anything about the condition of these people. Elaborating his point of view, the doctor said, “The ball bearings used in suicide attacks are poisonous and they are painted with acid. After five days, physicians could be in a position to say some thing about the condition of the injured persons.”
More than 32 patients had undergone surgery whereas the process for the remaining was in progress. The police authorities said the funeral of all the dead recruits had taken place in their hometowns after the dead bodies were handed over to the bereaved families. It is worth noting that the FC men were 20 to 25 years old; therefore, the loss of their families is just unbearable. Meanwhile, some businesses resumed activities in Shabqadar on Saturday. Noor Ahmad Khan, the head of local traders’ representative body, said a number of shops, whose owners and labourers lost their lives or were wounded in the gruesome terrorism act, remained shuttered on the second consecutive day.
Some of the shopkeepers were still shocked over the loss while others have started repairing of structures. The AFP while quoting police officials says the death toll reached to 89 on Saturday. “The death toll has risen to 89,” district police chief Nisar Khan Marwat told AFP. “There are five civilians among the dead and four other bodies which had been torn into pieces could not be identified yet,” Marwat said.
