Nazir Ahmed’s works were displayed on Friday in the Coopera Art Gallery where Ahmed paints natural and architectural beauty of Lahore and its outskirts. Suburbs seem to affect Nazir Ahmed a lot and he is inspired by the greenery and the beauty of nature and semi urban areas, still and quiet, where natural imagery resides in perfect harmony, untouched by humans.
Javed Akhtar in his applause says that his focus on landscape has placed Nazir Ahmed at a level where one can enjoy and appreciate his efforts both, and this work was “small and handy watercolour consisting of bold strokes and a lot of blank surface”. As time passed by, Javed says, Nazir Ahmed’s work also progressed and changed. An ardent admirer of Khalid Iqbal, he was very inspired by him but found his own style too.
Nazir Ahmed wanders around the Ravi and suburban areas for his expressions in drawings, watercolours, and oil paintings. His art is from nature connected with the environment and arranged art elements an important part of his visual language. An illusion of forms can be found in his work with simulated textural value. Although at times the effect is flatter but the tones used to suggest illusion associated with brightness.
The tones have been created using hatched and cross hatched lines blending forms with each other interestingly and in a controlled manner. Nazir Ahmed graduated from NCA in 1976 despite his preoccupation in official assignments he has concentrated and produced considerable work. His paintings are simple, fresh and charming. Whether it is a countryside, a park, a farm, a cityscape or a solitary tree he creates honest and sincere perception of the reality.
