In the recent verdict of Mukhtaran Mai case, where the accused persons were set free by the courts, one of the bases for this outcome was faulty investigation by the police. The police have been known for their delaying tactics and shady investigations in cases. This only facilitates the culprits in getting away with their crimes and causes further trauma and inconvenience for the victims. Whether on purpose or due to lack of proper training, this practice by the police has added to the deteriorating law and order situation of the country. It is imperative that the police should be given proper training in investigation techniques while investigations should also be monitored by the officials.
