KARACHI – The Pakistan Airline Pilots’ Association (PALPA) has virtually taken over the PIA and presently the organisation is dictating the postings in the flight operations section. Pakistan Today has learnt that after the successful campaign of Joint Action Committee led by the pilots’ association, which resulted in the removal of the then managing director, the association has assumed the role of a dictator. In the first place, they have replaced all the important posts in the airlines with their members and Captain Ilyas Malik has been appointed as the Director Flight Operations (DFO), Captain Adnan Haris as Chief Pilot Flight Safety, and another captain as GM Flight Standard.
Similarly the airlines has re-opened its abandoned department named Flight Services and appointed Umer Razzaq as its General Manager, who was the GM logistics earlier. This department was initially falling under the DFO. The flight operations front has almost been filled with the members of the pilot’s association, and now they are eyeing on a newly designed post of director Customer Services on which Mamun Rasheed is serving currently, sources said.
