LAHORE – Saturday’s rain left a number of areas out of electricity until Sunday morning while the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) took a long time to repair the lines damaged because of the rain.
Electricity in a majority of areas was suspended late at night on Saturday. Power was resumed in some areas immediately after the rain but some localities had to wait for a long time. LESCO sources said that some electricity lines were damaged because of the rain, as trees fell on them causing suspension of electricity.
They said that the linesmen were reluctant to climb on poles due to rain owing to which the problems were fixed late into the night while some areas also experienced a voltage problem and it was fixed in the morning. Baghbanpura, Mughalpura, Harbanspura, Johar Town, Township, Green Town, Allama Iqbal Town, Faisal Town and some other localities experienced problem of electricity supplies.
“My area remained without electricity until Sunday early morning,” Rana Amjad Hussain of Mughalpura said adding that residents faced similar problems on Friday night, when there was also rain. “I registered a complaint on LESCO’s helpline at 11pm but no one came to repair electricity until 2am and electricity was restored at 5am,” Ali Hassan, a Johar Town resident, said.
The power shortfall decreased and remained 3,000MW on Saturday but there was no respite in load shedding and it continued for eight to 12 hours in various parts of the city. The weather remained pleasant but even then outages gripped the city. Power production remained 10,988MW while demand touched 13,988MW on Saturday.
On Friday, the shortfall stood at 3,935MW, generation at 11,020MW and demand at 14,955 megawatt.
