As per an English daily Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Pakistan has brought under question the drafting of the ZAB reference case (April 15).
In view of above, I suggest our elected PPP government to appoint a panel of some professional advocates like Aitzaz Ahsan, Asma Jehangir, Justice Fakharuddin Ibrahim-ji, Abdul Hafiz Pirzada, S M Zafar, Khalid Ranjha etc irrespective of their political affiliation to plead this high profile reference case of Mr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
People have cast aspersions about the suitability of Mr Babar Awan with respect to fighting this case. People have alleged that Mr Awan remained an adversary of Mr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in his life and afterwards and in the presence of ex-army dictator General Zia-ul-Haq, used to call him mard-e-momin, the very man who orchestrated the case against Mr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Further, people also say that he doesnt have the credentials or the credibility to fight this case. His dismal showing in filing the Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto case in the UN is used as an argument against his appropriateness for the case. Hence, people say that he is not the best choice.
The best course of action to deal with such doubts and misgivings is that the government should appoint other lawyers to the case so that they can assist Mr Awan without being directly involved.
This case should not be used by certain people to get political mileage since it is a very sensitive issue. Hopefully the government will look into who is the best man to fight the case.
