Recently, the government has taken the decision to devolve the HEC. It is the most destructive thinking not only for education but also for national integration as well. The HEC is the sole recognised institution in our education sector at the world level. No international university accepts degree or certificate awarded by colleges or provinces unless verified by the HEC. Since its inception, it has categorically performed well in many areas. Moreover it is working on merit and sending students abroad on scholarship in all disciplines. This credit also goes to the HEC. The HEC is the only institution that unites all federal units into one as a whole. The governments decision to devolve the HEC can be likened to taking a first step towards national disintegration.
I request the concerned authorities to take back this destructive decision of devolution. Pakistan already doesnt have a uniform system of education. The HEC is a body that encourages talent without any discrimination. This decision will badly affect the students, especially those studying abroad on scholarship, and their efficiency as well.
Education is the national interest and it must be saved at any cost. Devolution of the HEC is against the spirit of our national interest in education. Our education system is already on the brink of destruction this will add further fuel to the fire.
