Afaq group leader gunned down

KARACHI – At least four people, including the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqqiqi (MQM-H) Afaq Ahmed group vice president and member of the Karachi Organising Committee, were killed by unidentified armed motorcyclists in Karachi on Monday. The MQM-H leader was on his way home after meeting party President Afaq Ahmed in Central Prison Karachi when four armed motorcyclists opened indiscriminate fire on his vehicle on Tariq Road signal and fled.
Ferozabad SHO Aurangzaib Khattak said four unidentified armed men on two motorcycles targeted the MQM-H Afaq Ahmed group leader and fled. He said five passers-by, including a woman were injured in the firing. The injured were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment where Akhtar Hussain, 40 and Abdul Karim, 30, and Shamsun Nehar succumbed to their injuries.
Two more activists of MQM-H Afaq Ahmed group were also badly injured in the attack and among them 28-year-old Shoaib also died during treatment, he said.
“Witnesses told police that four motorcyclists stopped near the car and two of them opened fire on the vehicle,” the SHO said. “A woman passer-by was also killed in the attack,” he said.
Jamshaid Quarters Town Police Officer Amir Faruqi told Pakistan Today that the MQM-H Afaq Ahmed group delegation was returning from a meeting with party President Afaq Ahmed when they were attacked by four motorcyclists.
He said police had recovered 13 shells of 9mm pistols and two motorcycles from the spot. He said investigation was underway.
