The police can play a vital role in the current situation when Pakistan is surrounded by menace of violence. Pakistan and its citizens are in continuous war with an invisible enemy.

This enemy aims to destabilise major cities by attacking law enforcement agencies. The complicated war against such enemy has made citizens look up to the police to secure them of this threat. Police must be supported fully by the citizens in all circumstances to boost their morale. This can only be done if the citizenry is made aware of the duties performed by police.

According to the Transparency Internationals 2010 Global Corruption Barometer police has been ranked in the top three most corrupt institutions of Pakistan. As a concerned citizen I urge the authorities to take concrete measures to rid corruption from within this institution and bring the police and citizens together so that we can fight terrorism as one.

The police education and training are slightly differentiated and citizens need to be made aware of this via training campaigns. It is vital to make this differentiation and perform training of police for the better of Pakistan.

They must aim at capacity building of the countrys police so that the traditional thana culture can be minimised.

The real issue in Pakistan at the current time is safety situation. Somewhere in between the concerned uncertainty over police accountability and arrogantly tyrannical ramblings in the past is the reality that nobody wants to know.

Our tax money must be used on having a police force so that everybody can feel safe. These funds should be utilised in the best ways to prepare police according to the current needs.
