There has been a recent trend where the families of investigating police officials are being targeted or are subjected to harassment. This tactic is being used to coerce the police officials into abandoning the investigations.
The recent killing of the brother of a police officer, investigating a journalist murder case in Karachi, is a case in point.
A mechanism should be developed, where the identities of the investigating officers, especially in high profile cases, should be kept out of the public eye and their families should be provided with necessary security due to the sensitive nature of cases.
