KARACHI – Sindh Chief Secretary Abdus Subhan Memon warned the officers deputed in the province for the sixth housing and population census on Friday that no ignorance or negligence in duties would be tolerated and severe disciplinary action taken otherwise.
He said this while presiding over a meeting of DCOs and EDOs of the Revenue and Education departments and other relevant DPOs of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Jamshoro, Matiari, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Badin and Mithi held at the Sindh Secretariat. The meeting was also attended by Administration DIG Sardar Majeed, provincial Census Commissioner designate Noor Muhammad Leghari, Joint Commissioner Farooq Baloch and other senior officers.
Memon directed the DCOs, EDOs (Education), EDOs (Revenue) and other respective officers to ensure dedicated services – in accordance with the chartered line of action for the census. He maintained that sincere efforts would be appreciated and any problems must be brought into the notice of the authorities concerned. The provincial chief secretary asserted that in addition to monitoring and vigilance, desired security arrangements would be provided in sensitive areas identified by the DCOs.
Earlier, the designate provincial census commissioner briefed the participants of the meeting on functional aspects of census work. The participants pointed out that under the population census, internally displaced persons (flood survivors) and homeless people residing around shrines/footpath and other open areas shall also be covered.
The first phase of the house listing is to be initiated shortly. The meetings of other districts would be held on April 2 in Sukkur and Larkana.
