It has been recently reported that the government is planning another operation in Karachi to restore the law and order situation in the city. There have been various such operations carried out in the past but the results have not been very positive.
The concentration should be directed towards reforming and reviewing the performance of police as they have the primary responsibility for the security situation. The non-performance of the police force, especially in Karachi, is attributed to rampant corruption and political interference. It is imperative that these issues should be addressed if any long-term results are to be achieved.
