FATA Health Directorate gets Rs 24m equipment

PESHAWAR – To revive health facilities in the tribal region, FATA Development Programme – Livelihood Development (FDP-LD) on Tuesday handed over medical equipment worth Rs 24 million to the FATA Health Services Directorate.
The handover of 86 items of equipment included medical, surgical and diagnostic equipment that will be shared among six health facilities in FATA. The aim of the handover is to rehabilitate health services and improve community health services. The total value of the equipment is Rs 24.788 million.
Speaking at the handover ceremony at FATA Secretariat, FATA Health Services Director Dr Fawad Khan, appreciated the assistance being provided through the FDP-LD. “This donation of medical equipment to the FATA health facilities will improve the health infrastructure available to the people in FATA, especially those living in remote areas,” Dr Fawad said.
He aded the FATA Health Services Directorate, in coordination with FDP-LD, had identified the health points with limited medical equipment. The provision of new equipment to these points would support better health service provision for the people of FATA, he hoped. The FDP-LD representatives handed over the equipment to FATA Health Services Deputy Director Dr Jamal Nasir.
The FDP-LD has been working in partnership with FATA Secretariat and the FATA Development Authority to enhance the existing health facilities. An FDP-LD representative said, “We are honoured to be working with the FATA Secretariat and the government of Pakistan to provide better health services for FATA.”
The supply of medical equipment by FDP-LD follows the donation of four state-of-the-art ambulances that were handed over to FATA Secretariat in September 2010. The ambulances are now in use by Civil Hospital Zarghun Khel in FR Kohat, Agency Headquarters Hospital in North Waziristan, Agency Surgeon’s Office in FR DI Khan and Agency Headquarters Hospital in South Waziristan.
