ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Likeminded, the breakaway faction of the PML-Quaid (PML-Q), has opposed the PML-Q’s decision to boycott the presidential address to the joint session of parliament.
PML Likeminded President Senator Salim Saifullah called the PML-Q’s decision “inappropriate”. “If the opposition parties are really sincere in steering the country out of crises, they should develop mutual understanding and it will be their unity that can force the government to mend its ways,” he said.
He said to boycott the presidential address, which was a parliamentary tradition, was incomprehensible. “The PML-Q parliamentarians can raise their voice against Raymond Davis’ release and drone attacks in the upcoming National Assembly and Senate sessions effectively … But it is inappropriate to boycott presidential address,” he said.
Saifullah said that his party’s lawmakers would also speak against these issues in the upcoming sessions. “The PML-Q’s decision to boycott the joint sitting might have some ‘other reasons’ apart from those announced by its leaders,” he added.
