ISLAMABAD – In the wake of Thursday’s US drone attack in North Waziristan Agency on Thursday that killed 44 people, Pakistan has reportedly put its air force on alert and its fighter planes are conducting strict vigilance of the country’s airspace. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has intensified air patrols over the country’s Tribal Areas after a US drone killed over 40 civilians, according to a BBC report. The report, quoting sources, said the purpose of putting PAF on alert was to react sharply to the presence of US spy planes in the area.
According to a report, PAF has also cancelled holidays of functionaries assigned to keep vigil over the country’s airspace. In addition to that, PAF also cancelled the weekly holidays of all officials and functionaries. A PAF spokesperson, however, denied the contents of the BBC report, saying it was baseless and didn’t have “an iota of truth”. He said no extraordinary steps were taken on part of PAF in the Tribal Areas and everything was going per routine.
